A run, and a jump, for glory

Area's athletes bring back team title, 22 medals

Panhandle-area athletes came away with another strong haul this past weekend at the UIL State Track and Field Meet in Austin. They brought back 22 medals, including a Class 3A team championship by the Canyon girls and a Class 2A team runner-up finish by the Childress girls.

Here's a list of the area athletes who earned medals:

Team

Gold (1): Canyon girls, Class 3A.

Silver (1): Childress girls, Class 2A.

Boys Individuals

Gold (1): Devin Swain, Palo Duro, 4A high jump.

Silver (6): Cameron Armstrong, White Deer, 1A discus and shot put; Ben Moore, Panhandle, 2A 3200; Andrew Hudson, Bushland, 2A discus; Josh Braddock, Nazareth, 1A 400; Aaron Gordon, Clarendon, 1A high jump.

Bronze (1): Michael Rasor, Dimmitt, 2A 300 hurdles.

Girls Individuals

Gold (6): Katie Grimes, Canyon, 3A 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles; Canyon 3A 1600 relay; KaPrisha Henderson, Memphis, 1A long jump; Childress 2A 800 relay; Kristen Crabtree, Stratford, 2A 1600.

Silver (5): Katie Grimes, Canyon, 3A triple jump; Whitney Grimes, Canyon, 3A 400; Aries Bazaldua, Canyon, 3A 3200; Michelle Fangman, Vega, 1A 300 hurdles; KaPrisha Henderson, Memphis, 1A triple jump.

Bronze (1): Sutten Garnett, Spearman, 2A 1600.
