Course Description:

 

 

Basic English I: 

     

     By incorporating rigorous curriculum and standards-based content, this curriculum helps students develop the fundamental of language skills, through both verbal and written expression.

Basic English II: 

 

     This is a rigorous course in the fundamentals of grammar, usage, and mechanics.  This program is designed so that students can master English concepts for success in school, work and life.  This curriculum provides a solid pedagogical approach through an accessible reading level, strong vocabulary instruction, clear learning objectives, and manageable lessons.

Basic English III:

 

     This course is designed to integrate instruction in grammar and usage, facilitating an understanding of the rules of the English language and their practical application to the written and spoken word.  It is a composition course focusing on skills required for effective writing in a variety of contexts, with emphasis on exposition, analysis and argumentation, and also including introductory use of a variety of research skills.  Students will practice and apply each language skill in a variety of settings.

Basic English IV:

 

     This is a complete course in the real-life applications of the English language.  It contains skill-based lessons, clearly defined examples, vocabulary support, and frequent practice and review so that student of all abilities can master practical English concepts.

Basic Math I: 

     

   Pre Algebra:  The goal of Pre algebra is to develop fluency with rational numbers and proportional relationships. Students will extend their elementary skills and begin to learn algebra concepts that serve as a transition into formal Algebra and Geometry. Students will learn to think flexibly about relationships among fractions, decimals, and percents. Students will learn to recognize and generate equivalent expressions and solve single-variable equations and inequalities. Students will investigate and explore mathematical ideas and develop multiple strategies for analyzing complex situations. Students will analyze situations verbally, numerically, graphically, and symbolically. Students will apply mathematical skills and make meaningful connections to life’s experiences.

Basic Math III:

 

              Practical Math:  This curriculum offers well-placed lessons with sound vocabulary instruction, ample practice, and extensive review to help students understand, retain, and apply math skills in the areas of money management, banking, credit card math, everyday living and more.

Basic Math  IV:

 

      Consumer Math:  Students are introduced to such everyday life skills as balancing a checkbook, calculating net pay, budgeting expenses, making cost comparisons, buying and renting a home, and finding the cost of operating a motor vehicle. Basic business matters, including borrowing money, investing, and calculating business profits and losses are also included. The goal of this course is to guide students in building a strong foundation in logical thinking and problem solving that will enable them to make good decisions concerning matters of money and finance in their daily lives. Several projects and activities will allow them to use the skills and knowledge they gain from this course and apply them to real-life situations.

Basic Math II: 

         

 Students will learn:

Ø   Develop positive attitudes toward mathematics, including the confidence, creativity, enjoyment, and perseverance that come from achievement.

Ø   Become proficient problem-solvers by posing appropriate questions, selecting appropriate methods, employing a variety of strategies, and exploring alternative approaches.

Ø   Think logically, using inductive reasoning to formulate reasonable conjectures and using deductive reasoning for justification, formally or informally.

Ø   Cooperatively and independently explore mathematics, using inquiry and technological skills.

Ø   Make connections between mathematical ideas, between mathematics and other disciplines, and to life.

Ø   Communicate mathematics through writing, modeling, and visualizing, using precise mathematical language and symbolic notation.
