About STaR Chart and Why it is Needed

Only Professional Personnel need to respond.

White Deer ISD and Grants

Many of the current grants require that White Deer ISD submits its STaR Chart data (School Technology and Readiness) along with its application for the grant.  The STaR Chart was developed specifically for Texas public schools.  White Deer ISD is planning to make use of many grants that fit the instructional needs of our students ... therefore we need the help of all our professional personnel (teachers, administrators, etc.) in completing the STaR Chart for our campuses.

About the Interactive STaR Chart

STaR Chart was developed by CEO Forum as an interactive School Technology and Readiness (STaR) Chart.  It is a self-assessment tool designed to provide schools with the information they need to better integrate technology into their educational process. Here, you can complete an online, multiple-choice questionnaire that will provide you with instant feedback on how well your school is doing in this process.

The STaR Chart identifies and defines four school profiles ranging from the "Early Tech" school with little or no technology to the "Target Tech" school that provides a model for the integration and innovative use of education technology. The STaR Chart is not intended to be a measure of any particular school’s technology and readiness, but rather to serve a benchmark against which every school can assess and track its own progress.

How the STaR Chart Can Help

The STaR Chart can help any school or community answer three critical questions:

  1. Is your school using technology effectively to ensure the best possible teaching and learning?
  2. What is your school’s current education technology profile?
  3. What areas should your school focus on to improve its level of technology integration?

How the STaR Chart is Being Used

Here are some of the ways the STaR Chart is being used to help schools:

  • Setting benchmarks and goals. Schools, districts and states have used the STaR Chart to identify current education technology profiles, establish goals, and monitor progress.
  • Applying for grants. The STaR Chart has helped schools and school districts identify their education technology needs as they apply for grants.
  • Determining funding priorities. Education administrators and policymakers have used the STaR Chart to determine where to allocated funds.
  • Creating individualized assessment tools. Education administrators and policymakers have used the STaR Chart as the basis for state-wide technology assessments.

Three Steps to Using the Interactive STaR Chart

Integrating technology into the process of teaching and learning is complicated. It involves many essential elements such as the hardware and software present, the content available, the level of teacher professional development, and the degree of integration and use. In three easy steps, the Interactive STaR Chart can help determine where your school is today and where you want it to be tomorrow:

Step 1: Answer the following series of multiple choice questions.

Step 2: Print your STaR Assessment.

Step 3: Use your findings to work with staff, administrators, technology director, school board members, and community leaders to develop a strategic plan for improving the integration of technology in your school.
